Joplin Business Journal 2008 Landmark Awards, Vocational Technical School Winner
The Andrew Carnegie Library in Carthage and Southwest Career Center in Monett.
The southwest Area Career Center is on the cutting edge of Career and Technical Education serving 14 area high schools within a 40-mile radius of Monett. The high school student population in 2007-2008 was approximately 650 students daily. The school provides vocational and technical training for high school students as well as dual-college credit classes.

TThe Carthage Carnegie Library added a 13,000 square-foot addition to the facilities in 2007. This was followed by a major renovation for the existing historic Andrew Carnegie Library built in 1905.The new addition has seating for over 80 persons and two glassed-in study rooms. The renovation included upgrades in technology throughout including wireless internet in both the old and new sections of the library and doubled the number of available computers.
